I have set myself goals for 2019 because I want to have more success than I did last year.
I believe that this year is going to be a very successful one just based on the fact I have some solid goals in place.
Comparing that to last year where I would say I did OK and I wasn’t really happy with the outcome, I would say yes.
I have that feeling that that solidness will bring me a lot more success.
Winging it only got me so far.

Why I’ve Started Writing Down My Goals
Have you ever heard the saying “A man without a goal is like a ship without a rudder” by Thomas Carlyle.
That’s how I’ve been feeling for the last year, I felt that although I knew where I wanted to go I was really directionless, I knew what I was doing but I was doing it for the sake of doing it.
There was no real meaning behind it.
Nothing to get me excited, I was just producing books, and it was the be all and end all.
I wasn’t excited about what I was doing, it was just publishing books to make money.
However, this has all changed with what I want to achieve this year, after seeing multiple success stories who were not just doing the typical pump out a lot of books but creating a brand, this started to get my brain thinking and got me excited about the process again.
Why 2018 Wasn’t as Successful as I wanted it To Be
After month and months of trying to figure out what I wanted to do it wasn’t until I took mentoring sessions with Emeka Ossai that I finally realised that my mind wasn’t where it needed to be.
I had been bouncing all over the place.
I was so unfocused that it really did harm my ability and took me from having huge success to recessing back to nothingness.
It was these talks that made me realize where I had gone wrong and where I needed to go.
It was all in my mindset, this was the biggest thing that had been holding me back from ultimate success in 2018.
If I had realized this sooner I know I would have had far more success in 2018 that I did.
The success that I had didn’t come till the end of the year.
I was able to fix certain things that allowed me to rewire my brain and tune it to successful frequencies.
All my businesses suffered, including my blog where I didn’t post for weeks and even months at a time.
I had become so unconfident and unmotivated that it basically affected everything I did.
And now I see that this is so key to having success with anything you do.
My finances were another major breaking point, although I wanted to invest I couldn’t due to the lack of finances, and my thinking turned to what if this book flops, I would have wasted money on the production.
It was a vicious cycle that I now understand how this can affect newbie publishers who don’t have much capital.
I’m a bit less fearful now as I have solidified my keyword research and started to produce winning books again.
What I overcame in 2018
The biggest thing was the mindset and finances.
You don’t realize this until it happens to you and you overcome it but this was the biggest thing that was holding me back from achieving everything I wanted to.
Once you get that bit of help you can then start to move on with what it is you need to do and start to achieve your desired goals.
Sometimes we over think things and this can ultimately affect how well we do something, sometimes even stop us from doing something for a week or even months at a time.
The 2nd biggest thing for me was finances, and although I thought they were OK, it is always something that is niggling at the back of your mind.
I just didn’t have enough to scale the way I wanted to, produce the books I wanted, so I decided to do something about it.
I tried multiple ways to make money, I tried both B2B marketing articles, copywriting and teaching English.
The first two were good money and was easy work but finding clients was the hardest part.
It wasn’t consistent.
Although I would get many clients interested and pitch them on the phone when I quoted them $0.20 per word it just came out too expensive for them or maybe was too much for them.
I was putting on two hats at once.
The best and most reliable way of making money was teaching English, I had done this a few years prior and was the easiest and least stressful way to make money.
It provided a steady income every month which I am still currently doing.
Focus, focus, focus.
By having this focus I now know where I’m going, I can now see the final destination of where I want to go and what I want to do.
It feels like I have a bit more freedom than before where I felt a bit trapped.
My 2019 Goals
When I think of goals I think the more the specific the better but you must be able to say what you want to achieve in as few words as possible so people understand your vision without getting bored.
These are goals that excite me and I am already working on as it’s already February, I know I was a bit late with this post.
So here they are.
This is the one that excites me the most, as I have more excitement about this one than any other one on the list as I can see the huge potential I can achieve.
Create 2 brands earning $10,000 a month publishing companies and sell them for $200,000+ each.
Yes, you just read that right.
I realized one thing, that although these are passive businesses if they’re set up in the right way they become businesses assets that can be sold.
Now that is the short version of what I will do but it goes a lot deeper than that.
This will include:
- 40 books
- List of 10,000 engaged fans
- Membership site
I have been rereading Dot Com Secrets and it made me realize one thing.
99% of publishers, including myself, are only utilizing their front end offer, there is so much back end potential that we as a publishing community have been stupid and ignorant not capitalizing on this.
Only a few people have really seen how powerful it can be.
Create systems which will keep high quality while producing books consistently
The biggest thing I want to stop doing is trading my time for money. I want to switch that on its head and pay for my time back.
I have slowly been buying back my time last year with the smallest tasks that although they would take me a small amount of time I know that all those tasks start to add up and take away valuable time which can be used on more important tasks.
The plan is to create a whole training program which I can give to a virtual assistant and train them to start running my business.
I know there are already trained VA’s but I believe that this system is able to mimic the way I want to do things.
I already have 60% of this completed and as we speak I am shooting videos as I need to shoot them as I progress and do more tasks so I am not overwhelming myself.
The advantage of this is I only have to spend my time once to show them how to do it, and if they ever need to see how to do it they just look back at the video.
I already use this system to find keywords, categories and publish my books on Amazon.
When it comes to diving deep I will give them access to the courses I own and they can learn to become skilled at more tasks.
Publish more consistent content related to publishing, making money online and travel while earning $5,000+ a month
With my goals of travel high on the agenda this year it is important that I have sufficient funds to do it.
I believe that my blog and Youtube channel will be one of the driving factors behind earning more affiliate income.
Before I was consistently earning $2,000+ a month just from my blog, but now that is below $1,000 every month which is due to lack of content, SEO and traffic.
With the lofty goal of $5,000 a month, I will be putting my skills to the test, but I believe I can do that by creating more high-quality relatable content which people want to read and watch.
Create another Course
As you already know I created my course Rapid Publishing Keywords which has since helped multiple publishers find keywords easily, I feel that I still have more in me to help more people in the publishing space.
If I decide to publish a course will depend on two factors, whether I learn how to build an audience and whether I achieve my intended plan in time.
Because although I made a few thousand dollars from Rapid Publishing Keywords I would want my time rewarded if I decided to pursue this venture.
We will see.
Here’s what Jonel said about his experience with the Rapid Publishing Keywords course.
Create an authority site which becomes the go-to site in ****
I don’t want to reveal too much about this to the public right now, but this is a side project that I will be starting this year, something which has been on my mind for a while.
Although there is information on this subject from various people I believe that there could be a lot more detailed information and more guides to help people understand the subject in more detail.
Although this is not the main focus, I believe this can be very lucrative.
To have 15% body, chiselled abs and a healthy lifestyle
This is one of my hardest challenges but something I’m already well into.
I’ve already started to do daily exercises which were put together by my friend Nicholas “JJ” Lee
The exercises are very simple.
25 Reps, 5 Sets
Day 1, 3, 5
- Push Ups or chin ups
- mountain climbers
Day 2, 4, 6
- heel Lifts
I added on this sit up routine, currently at 3 sets
I don’t have time to go to the gym, I like something I can do at home, so this is perfect as I do it as soon as I wake up in the morning.
The other big this is food, as I’m in South East Asia it’s pretty easy to eat healthily, the only bad part is the low-quality oil.
I will be looking at some meal prep companies as I would like to eat healthier as I know this will improve my energy and health.
Travel to Vietnam, Japan, China, Philippines, Malaysia, Lao
I want this year to be the year that I allow myself to get the freedom to travel while still running my businesses. This will be done by systematizing my businesses so that even though I am away the tasks can be done to a high standard without me being there.
By outsourcing many tasks it will give me the freedom to do more of what I want to do which is travel, see new cultures, experience travel like I’ve never done before. This really excites me that I will be able to achieve this all this year.
The reason why I’ve chosen these places is they are all in the Asian region and don’t require me to spend a day to travel to.
I’ve already done a bit of Vietnam already
And I also rode an ostrich, never thought I would do that in my life.
I’ve always heard top level entrepreneurs say seminars are a game changer to their business because of the knowledge they learn and the contacts they gain.
I know that I will learn something that will be invaluable to my business which will project me forward quicker than if I didn’t go whether it is from a speaker or just from someone I talk to in person.
Self Publishers Mastermind
Multiple people who I talked to said that they gain so much from the first one hosted in Cancun, Mexico. With some high-level publishers there I know I can gain some insightful information from them that will help give an edge to my publishing business over my competition.
My main aim is to use all the education material I already have.
I have bought so much over the years, it equates to thousands of dollars, I guess you can relate.
Some good, some not so good.
But I feel that what I have is good enough to keep moving me forward in the direction I want to go in.
Copywriting is the main skill I want to improve on this year if anything else I know this skill is worth gold just because I can use words to convince people to buy what I want.
I have multiple books which I have yet to read which have now become a priority, I have set myself a minimum of 30 minutes a day of reading or practising, or I’m not allowed to sleep.
I have it as the first task of the day so I don’t miss this.
The only time I would miss it in the morning and had to do at a later time is if I had something urgent I had to do.
This is a belief that this is one of the things that will bring me more riches in 2019 than anything else because it’s not just about writing but how it helps you understand your customer in more depth that will allow you to sell to them better.
As of writing this post, I’m currently reading The Boran Letters by Gary and Bond Halbert
I highly recommend you read this, I’m on my first time but it goes over so many essential marketing and copywriting aspects.
I believe these goals are all closely related allow me to achieve more of them than I think I could.
Last year I wasn’t able to achieve as much as I wanted because all of my goals were so far apart from each other.
After experiencing this I now know the key to success is not spreading yourself too thin. This only makes you tired and frustrated and you will achieve far less.
When I look at anyone who is successful they’ve focused on one stream of income, built that really strong before moving onto the next one.
I’ve essentially wasted valuable time not taking the right steps.
I know I’m on the right path now and will succeed in what I’m doing.
