Have you ever bought something and then a day or a few days later see something much better?
That just happened to me.
For the last 2 weeks, I’ve been looking for a new bag because my old travel bag is now on its last legs.
6 years of wear and tear does its damage!
It was fun while it lasted, but it’s time to move on.
Farewell, old chum.
After 2 weeks of searching, I found what I thought would be my next perfect travel partner.
But something sexier came along.
Let me tell you about the new travel bag I got before I tell you about the travel bag I fell in love with.

The Tough Choice
I will be brief but after weeks of searching, I was down to 4 bags.
I was torn between the
- Nomatic 40L Travel Bag
- Tortuga Outbreak Travel Bag
- Eagle Creek Global Travel Bag
- North Face Surge Back Pack
These all stuck out as ones I wanted but they didn’t have all the features that I needed, which were:
- Security (Protect my items with lockable features)
- Gadget organization (The ability to organize my gadgets)
- Weatherproof (Have a rain cover)
- Airline Carry on (Can carry this on airlines)
But with no rain cover or no chance to buy one I couldn’t go with the Nomatic.
What annoys me the most is I thought they would have included this, even at a little bit of an extra expense.
If they had included that, it would have pushed me to purchase their bag despite costing more.
The Chosen One
The Eagle Creek Global Companion travel bag came out on top because it had all the features I wanted for travel.
And although it didn’t excite me it got the job done.
After playing with it for a while I started to like it more and more.
As I packed in my things I realized it was doing exactly what I needed it to do.
But I ran into another small problem.
What Was Missing?
Despite having everything I needed for travelling it had one key feature missing.
A day bag.
Like seriously who is going to carry a massive backpack around the city.
The current bag I got with my laptop does the job but it takes up unnecessary room in the bag which I could fit other things in.
Despite this, I knew there was no other option and I would have to deal with this as I could never find a bag which would solve this small problem.
Or could I??
The Accidental Meeting
When they tell you to “just go home”, they mean it.
Then tragedies don’t happen like this one.
On the fateful day, I was working at Starbucks at Mega Bangna Shopping Mall.
I had finished planning some new books early and I thought I would take a wander around the shopping mall.
I was actually thinking about buying some Reebok trainers, well just browsing to see what they had.
I went to a few sports shops, then I came to Sport’s World. As I was walking around I saw the bag racks with Osprey bags.
I thought let’s see what they have to offer.
After browsing for a minute I came across one bag which looked different to all the others.
I started to explore it more.
That’s when I had the shock of my life!
My Dream Bag
I never would have expected to find this for one moment, but I did.
I found a bag which ticked all the boxes.
Well, at least I thought I did.
It didn’t just tick all the boxes but that extra one, the day pack one!
One that didn’t make me cram in everything and pray it would fit.
It was an amazing feeling of shock and disbelief that this even existed and second yet that none of the big name bag reviewers had even talked about this bag before.
The Osprey Ozone Duplex 65 Travel Bag seemed like it couldn’t be real.
When I first saw it I thought to myself, Nah this won’t fit as carry-on, but then I saw the label which stated it could.
This was a yes moment!
Why I Love The Osprey Ozone Duplex
The biggest thing for me is that the bag is a 2 in 1.
Travel and day pack.
This is a game changer for me.
I had one of these before but the day pack was seriously small.
The difference this time is that the secondary backpack is one you can keep all of your electronics in and things for the day, then detach the main clothing part and be on your way and explore the city within seconds.
It just feels so convenient.
Things I Like
There are few things I like about the bag and here they are.
The biggest thing I like is the two in one feature which allows you to easily detach your day bag from the main bag.
This is the one feature that made me say ‘WOW’!
I’d seen this before, but not done this well.
There are some strong clips at the top and bottom which easily allows it to detach.
I had never seen a 65-litre bag that could be a carry-on.
This is big for me because I can stuff an absolute mega tone into the bag and be happy.
As most airlines I’ve been on recently don’t check my bag for the 7kg limit I will stuff the hell out of this bag. And when I’m on the plane if it was too big to fit in the overhead compartment I would just detach the bags and put them both in separately.
Yes, 6 packing cubes fit comfortably in:
- 2 Medium
- 2 Small
- 2 XS
The space in this one is a beast!
l will be travelling soon and I want to discourage people from targeting my bag.
I believe the with a lock it will be seen as a more difficult target which will give me peace of mind while travelling.
I’ve been lucky up to this point that my stuff hasn’t been stolen.
But in my mind, it’s better to be safe than sorry that your new $700 phone got snatched because you didn’t get a lockable bag.
That’s another reason why I like a rain cover, it adds an extra layer of security.
I know I said it had everything, but it felt like that at the time.
Things I Don’t Like
But there are some things that killed me that they didn’t include.
No Rain Cover
I really don’t like they didn’t include a rain cover with the bag and that you have to spend extra to get one.
I don’t know why bag manufacturers don’t add this as it is an essential part of a bag, because if you get caught in a downpour your bag is going to get wet.
And despite what they say I just have this feeling that some water is going to get through to the inside and my electronics will get wet, making me an unhappy traveller.
The rain cover costs extra, but at least I had the option to buy one.
Lack of Organization
Although this is not a deal breaker as I can get a separate packing bag to help with this, I feel they could have added this to the day bag compartment.
Despite this, it’s not a huge deal when the bag is a 2 in 1. 😀
Video Review of The Bag
If you prefer to watch all the good and bad stuff, here is a video I did a review of the bag.
Will I Get One?
I will get one but I have set myself some strict rules that I must achieve before I get one.
- I must earn an extra $500 in one month.
- Sell the Eagle Creek Global Companion bag.
I have these two rules because I don’t want to be spending my business investment funds on a bag when I already have one. And I will sell the other one because I can’t travel with both.
I believe that everyone should set themselves rules like this to avoid overspending on items.
How Much Does It Cost
On Amazon, it comes in at $324.20.
In Thailand, it is currently on sale and only costs 7190 Baht which comes to about $225 US.
You can get one by clicking here.
Any Extra’s You Need To Buy?
This depends on your preferences but for me, I feel there are a few things which are vital to organizing your bag so it doesn’t become a cluttered mess.
The first two items I have, I got a set from Eagle Creek which included both and a shoe sack.
I also got Osprey packing cubes so I had enough packing cubes to fit in everything I needed.
I’ve already tested them and I was able to fit a lot more into my bag than I expected because of them.
I’m still looking for a gadget organiser if you have any suggestions let me know in the comments below.
This was a post I just had to write as it was on the tip of my mind.
Just like a de-stressor, it helps to get it all out into the world, plus I had to let you know about it.
Although this was brief I will be doing a full review of the bag at some point in the future as I feel this one does not do it justice.
If you have any questions or feel I haven’t covered anything in this post please feel free to comment below as I’m sure many people have the same questions as you.
