Why Being Your Own Boss Is Awesome!
I have not worked a 9-5 job for years and today I came to the revelation that it is quite awesome not working for anyone else, I am the only one I have to answer to. When I start work for the day it is up to me what time I start and finish or even do any work for that day. Now I’m not saying be a slacker and work an hour a day, which is totally possible. What I am saying is you don’t get the usual headache of having to be in at a specific time and someone looking over you. I come into my office wherever that is, coffee shop, co-working space, home or somewhere else and know what I have to get done and do it. I actually want to go to work and build up my business more. There is a feeling of freedom that I can do what I want when I want. I could stop all of my work for a week and come back and it will still be there flowing along while I’m away, I have no worries, and after the time off I look at what needs to be done and do it.
I have a few responsibilities which I feel I need to do on a weekly basis. I feel my blog is the most important as you, my readers are expecting something every Friday and I know this, so I write at least one blog post a week or two if something extra comes to my head. Writing a blog post is pretty natural as you just write what comes to you, it shouldn’t be a oh damn I have to write a post now as it is Friday. It should be a single thought which expands into something bigger, most of my posts are done a few days in advanced so I don’t have to proofread the blog post the same day and if something comes to me the day after I can add that in.
Kindle is less of a responsibility now than before as there’s very little I do on the publishing side as I have nearly everything outsourced.
Why It’s Not For Everyone
Even though I love being my own boss, it’s not for everyone. Some people like the structure and security of the 9-5 job, they don’t have the mindset for running their own business, they may want to do it but don’t have the drive or passion. Passion is one important factor as you can only go for so long on sheer grit, the passion has to be there so you’re excited every day to go and work on that project or task to push your business to the next level.
There will be struggles along the way which can make you think it won’t work and you’ll want to give up. If you have the wrong mindset you will think ‘ah, this doesn’t work, I’ll just go back to my job, it’s easier’. some people can relate to this, I had similar thoughts on many business ventures and then just stopped, but if I had just kept pushing I would have eventually got to the position I needed to be in.
How Can You Do It?
Becoming your own boss now is easier than ever, I think anybody can do it. There are so many ways to make money online now, there is something for everybody. The internet is a fantastic resource for finding your first business venture. There is so much free information online you just have to find the right bit because everyone has their own opinion on how to do something or people will only give you so much and the rest you have to purchase their course to get the good stuff.
As well as the internet there are thousands of podcasts you can listen too for free, there is a podcast on literally every subject. A podcast I featured on was Travel Like A Boss Podcast where Johnny FD interviewed me about what I had been doing all these years in Thailand, progress with my businesses and how I had applied things from his course to monetize my blog – Click Here to check out the episode
I find looking for free information time consuming, and I will only do it when I don’t have any other choice, I prefer to pay for a course as this is a quicker method of finding the information I need. Whichever course you take it will give you specific information on what you need to do to be successful from the instructor’s experience and if you’re already experienced, it may give you ideas which you may have never thought of.
I have taken a few courses. For Kindle Publishing I took Self-Publishing Revolution, for learning about creating a blog and monetizing it I took Earnest Affiliate, for learning to outsource my Kindle business I took Kindle AutoPilot. These courses have helped me to achieve my goals for my blog and my Kindle business. This month I earned around $3000 in passive income which is amazing to me. Earning over $1000 this month from my blog was an epic moment and something that still blows me away and I am very thankful for.

You Want To Become Your Own Boss!
So you like to be your own boss, I will go over what you need to succeed
- Find a business model which appeals to you.
- Find a course to teach you.
- Research the course
- Instructor Credentials
- Proof of his success
- Students success
- Reviews of their course (Be careful with this one as people will talk good about the course and have an affiliate link just to gain a commission.)
- Buy the course
- Learn the information
- Apply it
- Work hard
- Be consistent
- If you fail keep trying
This is basically it, once you find a business model which works for you keep working at it until you succeed. Don’t worry about failing, everyone fails, some fail massively before they become successful, you will never know if it will work unless you try the method to its fullest potential.
You have to decide whether you want to be your own boss or work for someone else, it is all down to personal preference. I personally hated working for someone else but I had to do it to earn money and didn’t know what else to do. I tried many things before I finally succeeded but I never gave up I just kept looking for something that would work for me.
I believe anyone can become their own boss and it is down to you to determine what you want to do and how you are going to get there.
I hope this inspired you to start moving and create your own business. If you want to start your own blog I recommend Earnest Affiliate, it took time but following his methods I have a constant rising income from my blog.
If you want to start your own Kindle business I highly recommend Self-Publishing Revolution, this course helped take my royalties from $600 to $2000 a month.
Start your journey today, it’s the best time to start.
